Village of Mastic Beach Audits
The Village of Mastic Beach has facilitated two different audits pertaining to financial operations and information technology (IT). The purpose of these audits is to identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities relating to the oversight and management of public monies and to assess how secure Village computer systems are and what steps may be needed to better protect residents' and employees’ private information. Moreover, the Forensic-Accounting Audit was undertaken because the New York State Comptroller's Office in 2014 reported some of the Village’s accounting practices did not comply with New York State regulations.
It is the Village Board’s fiduciary responsibility to know exactly how the people’s money is spent. With the issuance of the Forensic-Accounting Audit, the Board has the information necessary to secure and improve Village accounting practices and put in place additional systems and protocols to help assure public monies are properly managed, now and in the future.
