The Village Board is committed to the success and excellence of this fine community.
The Building Department manages and approves all construction and alteration of commercial and residential buildings within the Village boundaries. It ensures that all construction projects meet both New York State Building and Fire Codes and the Village’s Zoning Codes, as well as conducts fire inspections of all commercial buildings. In addition, the Building Department also manages and approves all rental permits.
The Clerk’s Office is the keeper of records for the Village. The Clerk is responsible for preparing and preserving the minutes of the Board of Trustees’ meetings along with all Village resolutions and local laws. The Clerk is the Records Access Officer for purposes of New York State‘s Freedom-of-Information Law (FOIL). Individuals wishing to obtain FOIL information are invited to download and complete a "FOIL form" and return to the office. The Clerk/Administrator also oversees the operations of the Village and its various departments and works closely with the Finance Department and the Board to help assure efficient and costeffective Village operations.
The Department of Public Works is committed to improving the quality of life for the residents in the Village of Mastic Beach.
The Fire Marshal’s Office enforces both the Village and New York State Codes through measures and procedures that emphasize compliance and strives to reduce the loss of life and property through education, inspections, investigations, building plan reviews and enforcement.
Virtually all new development within the Village, whether residential or commercial, is subject to the Planning Board’s review and approval. Procedurally, such development proposals and/or applications are subject to a public hearing, conducted by the Planning Board, which provides an opportunity for neighbors, Village residents and other members of the community to comment fully on the proposed development.
Public Safety is tasked with ensuring compliance with all Village Codes in order to help protect the health and safety of Village residents and to address quality-of-life issues.
The Village Treasurer serves as the Tax Receiver. All current taxes are due and payable by July 1st each year without penalty.
The Treasurer’s Office promotes prudent fiscal management of the Village’s resources. As such, this Department receives, disburses and manages the Village’s funds in accord with the Village’s fiscal policies, applicable laws, government-accounting standards board (GASB) and generally-accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for municipalities.
The Village Justice presides over the Village Court and conducts hearings and issues orders and penalties based on violations and offenses.
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) consists of five members appointed by the Village Mayor. The main purpose of a Zoning Board is to entertain applications such as Building-Department denials where applicants are seeking relief from certain zoning codes, special permits, usage and area variances.
