The Department of Public Works is committed to improving the quality of life for the residents in the Village of Mastic Beach. The services the Department provides are listed below.
Maintaining the streets throughout Mastic Beach, that span eighty-eight (88) miles, is a top priority for the Department of Public Works. Street maintenance includes street sweeping and pothole repair.
Although the Town of Brookhaven maintains the street lights within Mastic Beach, notification of a light that needs replacement is handled through the Village.
HOW TO REPORT A POTHOLE OR A STREET-LIGHT OUTAGE
If you would like to report a pothole, when contacting the Village, please include the exact location. If you would like to report a street-light outage, please be as specific as possible on the location. Whenever possible, please provide a light-pole number. Please call the Village at 631-281-2326 to report the above.
REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION
The company currently contracted with the Village of Mastic Beach for refuse and recycling collection is Quickway Sanitation. Quickway can be contacted at 631-928-4242.
Sanitation pick-up for household garbage is twice weekly (excepting scheduled holidays). The schedule is as follows:
NORTH side of Neighborhood Road and residences NORTH of Neighborhood Road: Tuesday and Friday.
SOUTH side of Neighborhood Road and residences SOUTH of Neighborhood Road: Monday and Thursday.
BULK-ITEM pick-up is on the SECOND regularly scheduled pick-up day. For residents NORTH of Neighborhood Road, the bulk day is Friday. For residents SOUTH of Neighborhood Road, the bulk day is Thursday. Kindly note there is a maximum of FOUR (4) bulk items per household per week.
RECYCLABLES COLLECTION for ALL residents falls on Wednesday. The Village of Mastic Beach now offers single-stream recycling. This means that ALL recyclables can be placed in one container for pick-up every Wednesday.
WHITE GOODS (refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc.) will be collected on the LAST SATURDAY of every month. Please call Quickway at 631-928-4242 to report your location and ensure pick-up of white goods.
ELECTRONIC DISPOSAL (TV’s, etc.) is handled by DPW. Please call 631-281-2326 to request the pick-up of any electronics.
(Bagged grass will NOT be picked up.)
Leaves must be placed in paper bags. Branches must be six (6) inches in diameter or less, cut into four- (4- ) foot lengths and bundled. Both bags of leaves and bundles of branches must be placed curbside on the Sunday night prior to a designated yard-waste pick-up week. The bags and bundles will then be picked up one day that week, between Monday and Saturday. Please see the current Recycling Schedule for the exact weeks when there will be yard-waste pick up.
CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS, CAR PARTS, HAZARDOUS WASTE AND/OR PROPANE CYLINDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND MUST BE TAKEN TO THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN LANDFILL.
Residents are encouraged to move all vehicles from the roadway after an accumulation of TWO (2) inches or more of snow. Parked cars are an obstacle for the snow plows and cause excessive snow and ice to be left on the roadways. In addition, for everyone’s safety and in order to help avoid an accident, please stay back at least two hundred (200) feet if following a snow plow. Snow plows make frequent stops and are often required to back-up on roadways.
When shoveling snow from driveways, please shovel the excess onto lawns and not onto the street. Shoveling excess snow onto the street can create dangerous and slippery conditions for both motorists and pedestrians.
