Public Safety is tasked with ensuring compliance with all Village Codes in order to help protect the health and safety of Village residents and to address quality-of-life issues.


Call Public Safety or Call Police?

The Office of Public Safety is available for the reporting of all Village-Code violations.  Staff members are available during the hours shown above and at the telephone numbers listed. Suffolk County Police should be called for all emergency situations by using 911.

Nonemergency situations requiring the police should be reported using 631-852-COPS (631-852-2677). The direct number to the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) 7th Precinct is 631-854-8700. Any problems requiring the police or an immediate response, such as a noise complaint, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. should be addressed by notifying the Suffolk County Police Department.

ANIMAL ISSUES/CONCERNS/ABUSE

Reports about barking dogs may be made to the Village’s Public-Safety Department. 

All other animal‑related reports must be directed to the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter at 631.286.4940as the Village does not have its own animal-control department.

Additionally, reports about animal abuse may be made to the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at 631.382.7722.
